Keep the shine
Jewellery care
A few small habits keep your Aiku pieces looking new for longer.
Last on, first off
Put jewellery on after perfume, lotion, hairspray and makeup have dried. Take it off before you wash your face or apply anything new.
Keep it dry
Remove pieces before showering, swimming (pools and the sea), the gym, or washing up. Water, sweat and chlorine dull the finish.
Wipe after wearing
After every wear, make sure to wipe each piece with a soft cloth to maintain its shine. Use the Aiku polishing cloth for gold-tone pieces.
Store separately
Keep each piece in its own Aiku pouch or box, away from air and humidity. Fasten chains so they don't tangle.
Best practices by type
- Gold-tone & plated pieces
- Never use jewellery dip, toothpaste or rough cloths. They wear away the plating. A soft dry cloth is all you need.
- Chains & necklaces
- Store them fastened and laid flat or hung, so the links don't kink or knot.
- Enamel & clover pieces
- Avoid knocks and drops. Enamel can chip if it hits a hard surface.
- Pearls & pearl-style beads
- Wipe gently after wearing. Keep away from perfume and never soak them.
- Beaded stretch bracelets
- Roll them on and off rather than stretching them over your hand.
- Crystal & stone pieces
- Clean with a soft dry brush to keep the sparkle. Avoid hot water.
- Earrings
- Wipe the posts before and after wearing, and always store them with their backs on.
Sri Lankan weather
Heat and humidity speed up tarnishing. In the rainy season, add a small silica gel sachet to your jewellery box and avoid storing pieces in the bathroom.
